L'Oréal Subtle Soft Micellar Make-Up Removers

Micellar water, models swear by it, celebs swear by it and even make-up artists like, Lisa Eldridge, use them in their daily routine. But what makes this water so good? And why would you spend money on cleansing... water..? Well, I will explain all of that in this post. Plus I'll review the new micellar cleansers by L'Oréal.

First and foremost: What is micellar water and what does it do?
The name micelle is given to spherical liquid crystals. They vastly reduce the irritancy of some detergents. Micelles are good at inactivating things.  They often form around other molecules. This can be both good and bad.  They can reduce toxic effects but also stop actives you want to work from working.  But the thing that micelles are really good for is trapping small quantities of oil.  So they make ideal mild makeup removers.

Why buy this special water?
Micellar water is awesome to remove makeup, but it also gets rid of impurities. Micellar water doesn't irritate the skin, so it suitable for us girls who have sensitive skin. Plus it's too expensive, it's quite a budget product. With that said, the question is more like: Why would you not buy it?

I use the Subtle Soft micellar waters by l'Oréal. I really like them. This was the second time I bought it, the gel was new, so I had to try it out. Both of them don't irritate my skin, they are a tiny bit drying though. I have a very sensitive skin and I had very few products that didn't dry out my skin even the slightest bit. I'm happy enough that these cleansers don't irritate. The most important thing though is how they remove make-up. Let's test it.

Don't mind my incredible drawing skills :P. Normally I would've shown how it works on my actual eyes, but I was a little sick and I didn't want to put make-up on my already red and puffy eyes.

The softening micellar water (€6.29) claims to do 3 things: 1. Cleanse 2. Remove make-up 3. Tones and calmes the skin. We've already established that it does #1 and #3. So how does it remove make-up? I applied some water to a cotton round and swiped it over the make-up.

Every bit of make-up is gone! Pretty impressed.

The gel (€6.29) is specifically for the eyes. It says that you can remove your eyemake-up without harsh rubbing.
I like that since wrinkels around the eye area are the first signs of aging and less rubbing equals less wrinkles.

rinsing it off with water
This one doesn't remove make-up as well as it should. Especially since you're supposed to remove the toughest kind of make-up with it (read: waterproof eyeliner). I'm pretty disappointed, because I was really hoping this would be an awesome make-up remover. I'll just keep using it on the days where I wear minimal make-up and I'll be using olive oil for the days where I wear a lot of make-up.

Overal I'm quite happy with these products. The gel could've removed my make-up a bit better, yes, but it doesn't irritate my eyes in any way and that's impressive because my eyes suck. The water is just awesome and I'm not going to leave it out of my routine for only €6.29. Budget friendly products are always a plus.

♥ Love, Vivian
