DIY 2 Ingredient All Natural Hair Lightener

Since I've gotten a bit bored of my red hair, I decided to go back to a blond colour, preferably my natural hair colour. Now as some of you might know, red and orange tones are the hardest ones to get out of your hair. I could bleach and tone my hair a couple times, but that would seriously damage it. So I decided to do it in the least damaging way, which would be the natural way. One of the ways I discovered was to make a DIY hair lightener with lemon and chamomile. Here's how to make it.

I don't remember where I got this spraybottle from, sorry guys :(
So the ingredients are easy enough, lemon juice and  really strongly brewed chamomile tea (and a clean spraybottle), but why these two? Well, chamomile is great for lightening hair. It brightens up blond hair immediately. It can also brighten dark hair if paired with henna (Warning: you can't dye your hair while using henna, the dye won't stick to your hair, because the henna works as a shield for that. Use a colour-rinse if you're not happy with the henna-shade anymore). Chamomile also has great properties against dandruff and frizzy hair. Overall a good product for your hair.

Lemon juice is also a great hair lightener. It brightens blond hair like a champ! There are some downsides though. The acid in lemon juice can damage your hair a bit, so deep conditioning is necessary. Also, in combination with chlorine, it could give your hair a nasty green tone (trust me, I've been there). So be careful with lemon juice when you swim in the pool a lot.

Before I forget, this lightener will do little to nothing if you stay out of the sun. Both ingredients need the sun to be able to do their magic. That's why I'm on my balcony right now, enjoying a cup of delicious chamomille tea and some vitamine D.

Buhh dry ends!
Some before pictures. My hair is already getting very light (remember that I got from quite a dark red shade).

So the moment we've all been waiting for: how to make it!

Start of by boiling some water.

Then brew some really strong tea, this step made me feel like I wanted to make myself some tea, so I did.

Look at this adorable Moomin cup! Moomin is the best!

Next, you let it cool down completely. Ugh I hate waiting. While it's cooling down you can make sure that your spraybottle is absolutely clean! You don't want it to get moldy.

Next you add a couple teaspoons of lemon juice to the spray bottle. Or do it like me and just dump some in there.

Then you add your tea and shake it up!

Not so pretty colour :P
Lastly, just spray it on your hair and go chilling in the sun. Remember to always apply sunscreen!

The lighting was too bright in the after pictures, but you can still tell that the lightener has given me awesome highlights :) This was after just one use.

Well, I hope you get some good use out of this tutorial. This lightener gives you great highlights and a sunkissed look, who doesn't want that? Go rock that beach ready hair!

♥ Love, Vivian
