Baking Soda to the test

Last week, I went to an asian foodstore here in the Netherlands. Together with some other stuff, I bought some baking soda. Supermarkets in NL don't sell baking soda, so I was happy to find it in the foodstore. I decided to test two uses for baking soda right when I got back home. The first one being a face exfoliator and the second being a foot bath. Here we go!

It is said that the exfoliator will give you brighter, smoother and clearer skin. This seemed quite perfect since my chin had some breakouts. My face before:

The light is really forgiving, but you are still able to see the breakouts on my chin. Let's see what this baking soda will do! I put some in my palm and added a little water. Then I just spread it on my face using a circling motion and washed it of with warm water.

My face after:

I could definitely feel that my skin was a lot softer and smoother. My pores looked bigger though and it dried my skin out a little, which made my breakouts worse. Let's see if the pictures show a difference.

My skin does look brighter, but also more red.

Conclusion: I like baking soda as an exfoliator. It does dry your skin out a little so, unlike some blogs I read, I don't recommend using this every day.

Now for the second use: a foot bath.

I don't have a lot to say about this. I soaked my feet for 15 minutes in the baking soda water and dried them off. My feet feel a tiny bit softer, but nothing more than that. Maybe I used too little baking soda? Anyway, not impressed.

What are your favorite uses for baking soda?

Love, Vivian
